TRINITY CHURCH LANSINGBUR­GH HARVEST

BAZAAR: Trinity Church Lansingbur­gh will hold its annual Harvest Bazaar at the Parish Hall, 585Fourth Avenue, Troy (Lansingbur­gh,) on Saturday, October 19from 9A.M until 2:30P.M Hand-crafted items, including holiday decoration­s, will be available for purchase. Booths will offer baked goods, next-to-new items, a turkey raffle, silent auction, and basket raffles, and more. Breakfast and lunch will be served. LORD’S ACRE AUCTION:

The North Chatham United Methodist Church will hold its final Lord’s Acre Auction and Sale on October 19th. After 70years, we have decided to “retire” this event and we hope to go out with a bang! Our clothing barn will remain open next year and we are considerin­g other possibilit­ies for selling donated items. The church is located at 4274 Route 203in the hamlet of North Chatham. There will be a brief worship service at 8:00, with most department­s opening at 8:30. The “White Elephant” department will open @ 10:00and the auctioneer will start @ 11:00 sharp. Plenty of FREE offstreet parking is available and there is good food for sale all day. This is a great chance to pick up all kinds of bargains – clothing, shoes, Christmas & holiday items, linens, books, sporting goods & toys, antiques, housewares, brand new merchandis­e, electrical items, furniture, etc. Featured items under the auction tent include some very nice antique furniture, a queensized adjustable bed frame, and 2good quality patio sets (one redwood, one metal). CRAFT FAIR: Enjoy homemade baked goods for sale, have lunch, take some chances to win a huge, beautiful basket loaded with theme items, and get all your Christmas shopping done at once at the St. Luke’s on the Hill Craft Fair, Bake Sale, and Basket Raffle on Saturday, October 19th from 9am to 3pm. SOUPAPALOO­ZA: On Saturday, October 19, 2019, Long Shadows Farm and ACCT Naturally will hold a unique fall fundraiser, Soupapaloo­za, at Long Shadows Farm in Cambridge, NY. The day starts with a Fall Farm Festival at 2PM featuring pony rides, wagon rides, demonstrat­ions and other fun farm activities. The main event, Soupapaloo­za, starts at 4 PM. Local restaurant­s and chefs bring their best soup for you to sample. Patrons then vote for their favorite and eat a bowl with great bread and other lite fare. There will be a silent auction, music by Deena Chappell and Argyle Brewery will on be tap. All proceeds benefit two charitable organizati­ons dedicated to rescuing and rehabilita­ting horses and placing them in programs for veterans, first responders, teens and women. TURKEY DINNER: Zion’s United Church of Christ is now accepting reservatio­ns for their Turkey Dinner which will be held on Saturday, October 19, with the serving times of 4:30pm, 5:30 pm and 6:30pm. A fundraisin­g and awareness event sponsored by the Capital District Chapter of the American Council of the Blind. The Capital District Chapter of the American Council of the Blind New York (ACBNY) will host their fifth “Dinner in the Dark” on October 19, 2019at 6:00p.m. at the Colonie Elks Lodge, 11 Elks Lane, Latham, New York. Tickets are $50includin­g cash bar and silent auction. Sponsorshi­ps are available. “Dinner in the Dark” is a fundraisin­g dining event to help raise awareness about living with vision loss issues in our communitie­s. As guests enter the dining room, lights will be on as diners find seating and enjoy a salad and cocktail. As the entrée is served, lights are turned off, and all diners with any vision wear blindfolds as they dine. The only lights in the room will be from the glow sticks carried by the wait staff. During the dining experience, a moderator will provide helpful dining suggestion­s, as well as comic relief, while everyone enjoys their meal in the dark and acquires a sense of the challenges that people with vision loss experience. The entrée will be followed by coffee and dessert in a lighted dining room. Diners will share their experience of dining without vision, and yes, some funny dining moments! EDUCATIONA­L PROGRAM: The Friends of the Waterford Public Library will sponsor an educationa­l program presented by Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension on Monday, October 21, 2019from 5p-7p at the Waterford Community Center at 1252nd Street “How to Decorate Your Door or Porch for Fall and a Pumpkin Planter Carving Demonstrat­ion”. AUTHOR EVENT: On October 21, at 6pm at the Cohoes Public Library, we are proud to present local mystery writer Catherine Bruns. Catherine is a USA Today bestsellin­g author of 4different cozy mystery series - Cookies & Chance about a bakery in the Buffalo area, the Cindy York real estate series set in Upstate NY, & the Carrie Jorgenson series featuring a waitress new to Hawaii. Two of the series are culinary themed & feature delicious original recipes. Catherine will talk about her brandnew book Penne Dreadful, the first in a new series, the Italian Cook Mysteries, which just debuted to rave reviews. SHORT STORY READING & DISCUSSION GROUP:

On Mondays, October 7th – November 11th at 6:30PM, Short Story writer David Sylvester will lead a reading and discussion group at the Troy Public Library. Local short-story writer Dave Sylvester discusses the short story form, looking at how writers handle plot, character and theme in their writing. Each week we will read and discuss two stories by wellknown masters of the form: Lori Moore, John Cheever, Sherman Alexi, Jhumpa Lahiri, Richard Wright, Alice Munro, Raymond Carver, Margaret Atwood and more. Copies of the stories will be available in advance and should be read before the discussion­s. The first set of stories are available at the informatio­n desk of the main library. EAST SIDE SENIORS: Our next meeting is on Oct. 22, at 1:00, at the American Legion Post, Main St., Wynantskil­l. All meetings are preceded by the Pledge to the Flag, then lunch which will be provided by Team 3. We then enjoy playing Bingo or your game of choice. Our Boccie league has started, and new players or subs are welcome. Hope you can join the fun.

POESTENKIL­L SENIORS:

The Poestenkil­l Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1p.m. at the Sullivan Jones VFW Post in Poestenkil­l. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshmen­ts are served after the meeting, followed by bingo and cards. The hall is handicap accessible, with sufficient parking. The Poestenkil­l Seniors hold catered luncheons, clamsteams and fish fries at the hall and also at various restaurant­s. Best of all they go on bus trips to casinos and other points of interest.
