Monday, Oct. 21 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM: The Friends of the Waterford Public Library will sponsor an educational program presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension on Monday, October 21, 2019from 5p-7p at the Waterford Community Center at 1252nd Street “How to Decorate Your Door or Porch for Fall and a Pumpkin Planter Carving Demonstration”. Members of the community interested in participating are invited to attend. The Friends of the Waterford Public Library work with the Library Director and Library trustees to support and advance the services and goals of the Library. AUTHOR EVENT: On October 21, at 6pm at the Cohoes Public Library, we are proud to present local mystery writer Catherine Bruns. Catherine is a USA Today bestselling author of 4different cozy mystery series - Cookies & Chance about a bakery in the Buffalo area, the Cindy York real estate series set in Upstate NY, & the Carrie Jorgenson series featuring a waitress new to Hawaii. Two of the series are culinary themed & feature delicious original recipes. Catherine will talk about her brand-new book Penne Dreadful, the first in a new series, the Italian Cook Mysteries, which just debuted to rave reviews. SHORT STORY READING & DISCUSSION GROUP: On Mondays, October 7th – November 11th at 6:30PM, Short Story writer David Sylvester will lead a reading and discussion group at the Troy Public Library. Local short-story writer Dave Sylvester discusses the short story form, looking at how writers handle plot, character and theme in their writing. Each week we will read and discuss two stories by well-known masters of the form: Lori Moore, John Cheever, Sherman Alexi, Jhumpa Lahiri, Richard Wright, Alice Munro, Raymond Carver, Margaret Atwood and more. Copies of the stories will be available in advance and should be read before the discussions. The first set of stories are available at the information desk of the main library. Tuesday, Oct. 22 EAST SIDE SENIORS:

Our next meeting is on Oct. 22, at 1:00, at the American Legion Post, Main St., Wynantskill. All meetings are preceded by the Pledge to the Flag, then lunch which will be provided by Team 3. We then enjoy playing Bingo or your game of choice. Our Boccie league has started, and new players or subs are welcome. Hope you can join the fun.

POESTENKILL SENIORS: The Poestenkill Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1p.m. at the Sullivan Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshments are served after the meeting, followed by bingo and cards. The hall is handicap accessible, with sufficient parking. The Poestenkill Seniors hold catered luncheons, clamsteams and fish fries at the hall and also at various restaurants. Best of all they go on bus trips to casinos and other points of interest.

GUIDED MEDITATION

CLASSES: The Troy Public Library will offer Guided Meditation Classes on Tuesdays, September 3rd - October 29th from 5PM – 6PM. Learn a surprisingly simple yet powerful practice that can help your reduce stress, get recharged, experience overall improved physical health and possibly get you “blissed-out” all while sitting comfortably in a chair. Wednesday, Oct. 23 YOGA PROGRAM: The Troy Public Library’s Lansingburgh Branch in conjunction with the Troy YMCA, will offer Yoga classes on Wednesdays, October 16th – November 20th at 5:30PM. This is an all-level yoga class that will invigorate your body and reduce stress. You will experience traditional yoga poses, stretching, breathing and relaxation techniques which will improve your flexibility, balance, strength and overall wellness. Please bring your own mat. FIESTA2: Creating Value and Community will take place on Wed., Oct 23, from 6to 8PM at 677Prime in Albany. The event is sponsored by NY Capital Region Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The purpose is to raise funds for educational programs and scholarships, recognize outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs, and have fun while doing this. CIRCLE: Ruah: Breath, Wind, Spirit - Thursday, October 24, 2019 7-9pm, Church of St. Vincent de Paul Chapel, 900Madison Ave., Albany. Breath, wind and spirit are around us and within us, and sometimes they manifest in unexplainable ways. Many people have had experiences of being touched by a loved one who has passed away. This experience can take many forms: a human shape, an animal, a flower, a cool breeze or a familiar fragrance. We might also keep our loved one’s spirit alive by honoring them with treasured rituals and stories of their time among us. Experienced guest tellers for this circle are Mary Murphy and Barbara Palumbo. Friday, Oct. 25 SILENT FILM WITH LIVE SCORE: Join us at the Troy Public Library on Friday, October 25th at 6PM for their Troy Night Out event, the screening of an original silent film accompanied by a live original score performed by Bobby Kendall. Kendall will perform a live, original score to accompany his silent film, “Dreams”.

“Dreams” is a fictional silent film meant to challenge the intent of aspirations and their effect on individuals and the world. The film follows three dreamers, each in different stages of their lives—one before accomplishing their dream, one in the process of trying to attain it, and one after achieving it. TATION: Schuyler Mansion: A Genealogical Presentation - With the arrival of the musical “Hamilton” at Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady in August, the “Schuyler Sisters” exhibit at the Albany Institute of History & Art from July to December, the Capital District is in a Schuyler Family frenzy.
