FOOD TOURS RETURNING

Special outings to take place in Troy and Albany in May

ALBANY& TROY » Taste of Troy Food Tours LLC will soon return for its 2020 season, offering tourgoers a progressiv­e meal with a side of history.

With the tours, owner and tour guide Amy Koren-Roth aims to present a buffet of restaurant­s and craft beverages that are helping to reclaim the vibrancy of the historic cities of Albany and Troy, including a new tour option focusing on South Troy and its flourishin­g ethnic food scene.

“Food tours are about telling the story of a city in a delicious way, tasting local foods while giving exposure to the entreprene­urs who are bringing culinary creativity to their city,” Koren-Roth said in a news release. “Our food tours tell Albany and Troy’s stories delectably.”

This year marks the fifth season of the highly popular Central Troy Historic District Food Tours, which are offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, May through October.

It includes visits to five eateries—Little Pecks, The Whistling Kettle, Illium Café, The Dutch Udder, and Brown’s Brewing Company—and a look inside the magnificen­t Tiffany-designed interior of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. This tour ends in time for guests to explore the award-winning Troy Waterfront Farmers Market.

The new South Troy and Ethnic Food Tour will take place one Saturday per month at the same time on a Saturday. The first is scheduled for Saturday, May 23.

said. Featured tastes will be Hudson- Chatham Winery, Quang’s Vietnamese Bistro, Carmen’s Cuban Café, DeFazio’s Pizzeria, The Ruck and Second Scoop Gelato.

This is also the third season of the successful Historic Downtown Albany Food Tours, which are held from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. on Fridays, May through October.

The tour offers attendees a chance to experience Albany’s exciting culinary scene firsthand. Punctuated by a stop inside the famous First Church, this tour features tastes from six independen­t Albany restaurant­s: C.H. Evans Brewing Company at the Albany Pump Station, Ama Cocina, The Hollow Bar & Kitchen, Cider Belly Doughnuts, Stacks Espresso Bar and the Olde English Pub.

Each three-hour, walking tour is a progressiv­e meal, led by a knowledgea­ble guide who takes tourgoers on a curated exploratio­n of these historic areas. Tours are rain or shine.

Food tourism is “the act of traveling for a taste of place in order to get a sense of place,” according to the World Food Travel Associatio­n.

Taste of Troy Food Tours LLC continues its partnershi­p with six other independen­t upstate New

York food tour companies via the Upstate New York Food Tour Trail. Those who take a Troy or Albany tour can enjoy a 10 percent discount on a tour in Saratoga Springs, Ithaca, Syracuse, Rochester, Oswego or Lewiston.

Tour space is limited and preregistr­ation is required. Included in the $6469 adult ticket ($44- 49 for children 3-12) are food and beverage tastings that are designed to satisfy all appetites. Tours can cater to most dietary restrictio­ns.

Private tours for special occasions such as corporate events, team building, birthday parties, bacheloret­te parties, bridal showers, and family reunions can be arranged upon request.
