Monday, March 23 DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE FUNDRAISER: POSTPONED - The Waterford Democratic Committee will host a fundraising event on Monday, March 23, 2020 from 5:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. at McGreivey’s Restaurant, 91 Broad Street, Waterford, NY. All are welcome to mingle, meet, greet and eat with Waterford Democrats and learn about future plans for the community. The event features a hot and cold appetizer buffet and a cash bar. A donation of $25per person will help to cover expenses and build the treasury of the Waterford Democratic Committee. SHORT STORY READING & DISCUSSION GROUP: CANCELED - On Wednesdays, February 26th – April 1st at 6:30PM, Short Story writer David Sylvester will lead a reading and discussion group at the Troy Public Library. Local short-story writer Dave Sylvester hosts The Short Story Café, an informal discussion of the short story form that examines how writers handle structural elements such as plot, character and theme in their writing. Each week we will read and discuss two stories by wellknown (and some lesserknown!) masters of the form. Copies of the stories will be available in advance and should be read before the discussions. The first set of stories are available at the information desk of the main

Thursday, March 26 UNDERSTANDING SHAKE
SPEARE: CANCELED - Join us at the Troy Public Library on Thursdays, February 27th – March 26th from 6:30PM – 7:30PM for our Understanding Shakespeare workshop with Tom Bulger. This will be a five-session program on how to understand Shakespeare’s plays. We will start our discussion with Act 1of Shakespeare’s comedy “Pericles.” Then in the following four weeks we will discuss the play one act at a time. This program will allow the participants to put the play in a variety of contexts, such as its relationship to his other works and to the modern existential world. Tom Bulger, Shakespeare Scholar and retired professor from Siena College will lead this workshop. Please have Act One read for the February 27th discussion. WOODWORKERS SHOWCASE: CANCELED - The Northeast Woodworkers Association has cancelled it’s annual Woodworkers Showcase presentation which was to be held on March 28& 29at the Saratoga Springs City Center, as a result of the directive from the Governors office prohibiting gathering of more than 500people at an event. The Totally Turning Symposium, a part of Showcase, has also been cancelled. The Woodworkers Showcase will not be able to be rescheduled for 2020, however, the show will be scheduled again for late March in 2021. For further information, go to www.woodworker.org. BANDS N BEANS: CANCELED - Lake George Arts Project’s Annual Bands ‘n Beans, March 29, 2020, 2-7pm at the Fort William Henry Conference Center, Lake George. Hot chili and hot music will be celebrated at the 29th annual Bands ‘n Beans event to be held at Fort William Henry Conference Center in Lake George on Sunday, March 29, from 2- 7PM. CANCELED - The Ilium Literary Club of Troy, NY is in its 97th year. Due to CDVID-19, the Ilium Literary Club of Troy is cancelling our April 3rd and May 1st, 2020 meetings. At this time, we are not cancelling our June 5th Annual Luncheon. An announcement will be made, in the future, regarding the status of our Annual Meeting & Luncheon. Saturday, April 4 KIDS DAY: CANCELED - On Saturday, April 4, from 9 am – 12pm, kids are invited to Peebles Island State Park for the 3rd annual Kid’s Day celebration. Besides short, guided nature walks around the Island, the Visitor Center will be buzzing with activities. Some of these activities include crafts, stamping and a story in our reading center. Kids will be invited to explore animal pelts and skins and to pick up a “Peebles Passport” that they will get stamped as they complete activities. Children must bring their adults. Questions? STEAM POWERED SATURDAY: Every first Saturday of the month children ages 4-12and their families are invited to visit the Tech Valley Center of Gravity at 30 3rd St. in Troy for a free fun, creative hands-on project. Sunday, April 5 VFW MONTHLY BREAKFAST: VFW Post 1938, Poplar Avenue, Valley Falls, NY will now hold its monthly breakfast from 8- 11a.m. on the first Sunday of each month (instead of the second Sunday), starting March 1. Saturday, April 11 HAZARDOUS WASTE, RECYCLING & SHREDDING DAY: Mayor Patrick Madden today announced the City of Troy’s upcoming Household Hazardous Waste, Electronic Recycling Collection, and Shredding Day has been scheduled for Saturday, April 11th, from 8:00am – 2:00pm. The event provides Troy residents the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through the city’s normal garbage collection service. The disposal event is a free service available to Troy residents only. Residents wishing to participate in the program will be required to pick up a Household Hazardous Waste Day coupon at the Mayor’s Office in City Hall (433River Street, 5th floor). Coupons can be obtained by Troy residents (with identification—see below) during normal business hours, 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). A limited number of coupons are available, and will be issued on a first-come, first served basis. Individuals without coupons will be unable to utilize the program. After-hours coupon pickup will be available at City Hall on Tuesday, February 25, from 4:30pm – 7:30pm, and on Tuesday, March 10, at the South End/Osgood Neighborhood Meeting (TAUM 3922nd St.) starting at 6pm, and March 10, at the Lansingburgh Neighborhood Association meeting (Boys and Girls Club, 501 4th Ave.) at 7:00pm. The annual collection event will be held at the City’s “Alamo” site located directly across the street from the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility near the intersection of Main Street and East Industrial Parkway in South Troy.
