SHAKER MUSEUM EXHIBIT: The Shaker Museum presents a temporary exhibition entitled Shakers: In Community at 17 Main Street in Chatham, NY. Through an array of photographs, furniture, prints, apparel as well as other objects in the permanent collection of Shaker Museum, this pop-up experience will examine the different ways in which the Shakers sought to forge equitable and inclusive communal bonds. The exhibition will be open Fridays through Sundays until Oct. 4, with the first weekend reserved for Shaker Museum members. Entrance is free for all visitors thanks to the generous support of the Henry Luce Foundation and Columbia County resident Jack Shear. This exhibition is one outcome of a sustained initiative. In 2018, Fordham University in New York City received a $50,000grant from the Henry Luce Foundation’s Theology Program to fund a project that explored Shaker art, design, and religion in partnership with Shaker Museum. As a result of this partnership, a group of artists, scholars, and museum professionals was formed to investigate these intersections within the Shaker context. Over 18months in 2018- 2019, the fellows explored the Shaker Museum’s extensive collection of Shaker material culture and spent time thinking about and discussing how to incorporate the values and spirit of the Shakers into the Museum’s mission and programming, leading in part to this exhibition. The Shaker Museum stewards the historic site in New Lebanon, New York and has a campus in Old Chatham, New York, which is open yearround by appointment, where the administrative offices, collections, library, and archives are housed. The Museum’s collection of over 16,000Shaker items is the most comprehensive collection of its kind in the world and may be viewed online at www.shakerml.org. NATUREFEST: Moreau Lake State Park NatureFest 2020 is going virtual. To help fight the COVID-19pandemic, we’ve cancelled our annual onsite event. We’ll also have games for friends and families to enjoy together. We invite you to visit our dedicated NatureFest 2020website naturefest2020.org after it launches on Sept.12.

WALK FOR APRAXIA: Apraxia Kids will host the 2020Plattsburgh Virtual Walk for Apraxia to continue the efforts of supporting children, families, and professionals affected by childhood apraxia of speech. Registered participants are encouraged to spread awareness by walking in their own local areas. All Walk for Apraxia events in North America were changed to a virtual experience to ensure the health and safety of all participants. The funds raised through the Plattsburgh Virtual Walk for Apraxia benefit Apraxia Kids, the leading nonprofit that works to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). This organization educates both families and speech-language professionals, endorses evidence-based research, and spreads awareness about this disorder so that children with CAS can reach their highest communication potential through accurate diagnosis and appropriate, timely treatment. Childhood apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to speak. Children with this diagnosis generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say, but have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex sequenced movements that are necessary for intelligible speech. There is no cure and treatment often requires many years of intense speech therapy. Raising awareness is one of the most tangible ways that communities at large can help children with apraxia thrive. Collective increased awareness means that children will be diagnosed faster, resulting in better, earlier intervention. For more information and to register for the Walk for Apraxia, please visit: https:// www.apraxia-kids.org/walkfor-apraxia-splash-page/. CHAPMAN MUSEUM OPEN WITH NEWEXHIBIT: On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Chapman Museum’s 2020 summer exhibit looks at the role of propaganda posters in building public support during the war. Featured are over 50 home front posters, which had been collected by Linc Cathers during his childhood. They urge Americans to buy war bonds, work hard, be healthy, conserve precious materials, and avoid careless talk. The exhibit encourages viewers to compare the era to today, and to consider how we as a nation address the challenges we face. Also featured in the exhibit are excerpts of the LOOK magazines series of articles about “Hometown, USA,” which examined Glens Falls as a model city on the home front during WWII, and a small changing display about the experiences of local service men. Related virtual programs are planned. The museum will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to noon and 1to 4 pm, in compliance with CDC Covid-19guidelines and NYS Phase 4safety regulations. The museum will be cleaned twice daily, and hands-on displays will be sanitized after each use. Capacity is limited, so members of the public are encouraged to schedule their visits. Masks are required. For safety reasons the museum’s Research Room will remain closed to the public. Research requests should be submitted in writing, by email or the museum’s website research form. The museum shop, which features local books and prints, will be open. Curbside and on

line options are preferred. The Chapman Museum is located at 348Glen Street, Glens Falls. Admission: Suggested donation - $5adults, $4Seniors and Students, Under 12free. For more information visit the museum’s website at www. chapmanmuseum.org or call (518) 793-2826.

As one of the most popular judged car shows in the Capital Region, the event is also a major fundraiser for the BSBPA, drawing more than 400car entries each year and hundreds of spectators to the village’s historic downtown. An entry form for submissions can be found at www. ballston.org. There is no cost to enter. Please submit vehicles no later than October 5. We will be promoting the page and encouraging folks to “like” their favorite vehicles, so we invite you to share the page and tell friends to visit and vote. The winner will receive a Ballston Spa gift certificate, good at many local shops, restaurants and services, and a “The Way It Is” T-shirt.
