HVCC Chamber Music Trio presents Women Composers

TROY, N.Y. » Chamber musicians (f lutist Melanie Chirignan, pianist Dan Foster, and cellist Will Hayes) will present music composed entirely by women in a virtual concert offered free of charge by the Cultural Affairs Program at Hudson Valley Community College. The live- streamed event will be Thursday, Oct. 22 from noon to 1 p. m.

The program will include: Fanny Mendelssoh­n ( 18051847, Germany), Trio in d minor Op. 11; Hilary Tann ( b. 1947, Wales), The Gardens of Anna Maria Luisa de Medici; Rhonda Larson ( b. 1963,

USA), Be Still My Soul; Amy Beach ( 1867-1944, USA), Pastorale and Caprice “The Water Sprites,” Op. 90.

Melanie Chirignan earned a bachelor’s in music education and performanc­e from SUNY Fredonia and a master’s in Flute Performanc­e from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford (CT). She performs on several works for Masatora Goya’s album, “Dream of Sailing,” and currently performs and teaches throughout the Capital Region.

Dan Foster performs often with Cambridge Concentus, Crescendo Berkshires, and Music in Somerset Hills in collaborat­ion with The Sebastians baroque orchestra. A champion of living composers and a gifted tenor, Foster conducted premieres of “Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis” by Timothy Luby, Vladimir Pleshakov’s choral music, and more. He is the music director of The New Opera at Williams College.

Cellist Will Hayes is a graduate of the Cincinnati College Conservato­ry of Music and a past student artist at the Chautauqua Institutio­n ( NY) and Aspen (CO) music festivals. He performs at chamber music recitals, with full orchestras, in musical theater production­s, and at weddings, and is an all- strings Suzuki teacher, working with students of all ages.

Remaining Fall 2020 Cultural Affairs Program events are f lamenco guitarist Juanito Pascual at noon on Thursday, Oct. 29 and singer- songwriter Deb Cavanaugh at noon on Thursday, Nov. 12 in a program entitled “Musical Travels in China, An Adventure in Teaching and Learning.” Both programs will be delivered online.
