Troy police arrest two burglary suspects
TROY, N.Y. » Troy police confirmed they recently captured two in-progress burglary suspects, recovering an illegal handgun during the incident. Police arrested Luis A. Rivas, 47, of Troy and Jessica M. Carrillo, 31, of Manhattan.
On Wednesday, Dec. 1, around 8:30 p.m. Troy police patrol officers received a 911 call from a resident reporting two suspects in her residence. The victim was locked in the bathroom but reported that at least one of the suspects was wearing a mask. Multiple officers responded and a sharp-eyed officer observed a vehicle fleeing the scene occupied by two individuals wearing masks. A traffic stop was conducted and both occupants of the suspect vehicle attempted to flee on foot. Both were captured and positively identified as the suspects of the burglary, according to police.
A loaded, illegal handgun was located within the front passenger area of the suspect vehicle. The preliminary investigation has yielded that the victim and suspects were familiar with each other.
Both Rivas and Carrillo were brought to the Troy police department for processing and held for arraignment in Troy City Court.
Rivas was charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony first-degree burglary, felony second-degree robbery, felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, misdemeanor second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and misdemeanor fourthdegree criminal mischief.
Carillo was charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony seconddegree robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and misdemeanor second-degree obstructing governmental administration
Troy police department members will partner with the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office for the followup investigation and prosecution.
