CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. » The Van Patten Golf Club and restaurant, now called the Cooley Kill Restaurant and Bar, is under new management and ready for a grand reopening to the public.

The establishment celebrated a ribbon cutting with the support of not one, but two local Chambers of Commerce.

The ribbon cutting was held as a joint celebration between the Capital Region Chamber and the Saratoga County Chamber. Representatives for both showed up to congratulate owner Lance Orcutt and general manager Joe Gunther and wish them success. To show off the joint celebration, Orcutt and Gunther cut two ribbons, one for each Chamber.

“We’d like to wish you congratulations on everything you’re doing here,” said Capital Region Chamber senior vice president for Membership and Community Advancement Pete Bardunias.

Orcutt has a long-term vision for Van Patten that includes a full renovation of all 27 holes on the golf course and an upgrade to the practice facility. His restaurant staff has already prepared a full new menu for restaurant patrons. Orcutt estimates that the full renovation project will take at least ten years to complete, but he’s going to have some of the best help he could ask for in the process.

Rees Jones, a renowned golf course designer nicknamed “The Open Doctor” because of his work on so many US Open golf courses, will be lending his talents to the landscaping and redesign of Van Patten. Orcutt is very excited to be working with him, but was also quick to praise his own staff for the work they’ve done on the course so far.

“We’ve got a fantastic maintenance crew, and they’re doing a great job,” he commented.

“We’re very excited,” remarked Clifton Park town supervisor Phil Barrett. “When Lance started talking about his vision for the property, it was exactly what any municipality wants to hear.”

“This is a great day for golf in Saratoga county,” said Senator Jim Tedisco. “We’re excited that you’re investing here and creating jobs here.”

Orcutt doesn’t live in Clifton Park but is glad to be joining the community, and looks forward to doing business there.

“It’s nice, because I-87 is two and a half miles away. It’s a great convenient location,” he said. “We’ve made lots of great connections in the community already.”
