Sheriff candidate Brian Owens selects Kerrie Peter-Marble as choice for Undersheriff

- By Record staff

Brian Owens, retired City of Troy Police Chief and candidate for Rensselaer County Sheriff, has announced his choice for Rensselaer County Undersheriff, Kerrie Peter-Marble.

Peter-Marble began her 26-year law enforcement career as a dispatcher and police officer for the North Greenbush Police Department before being selected for the New York State Police (NYSP). Peter-Marble began as a Trooper before being promoted to Investigator with the New York State Intelligence Center, assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Unit. In 2021, she retired after 20 years with the NYSP Violent Gun and Narcotics Enforcement Team. She currently serves as a subject matter expert on school safety, reunification, and substance abuse prevention training for area schools. She is also a graduate of Marist College with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

Peter-Marble comes from a law enforcement family that includes her father (Bernhard Peter, Retired Schodack Police Chief), uncle (Kenneth Peter, Retired Village of Nassau Police Chief), and brother (Nicholas J. Peter, Troy Police Officer). Peter-Marble grew up in the Town of North Greenbush and is a longtime resident of East Greenbush, where she resides with her husband, Donald Marble, Troy Police School Resource Officer, and their two children, Lukas and Leah.

When asked about his choice, Owens stated in a news release announcement, “Kerrie and I met when we sat next to each other at the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Training Center. We became friends and would later work together throughout our careers. While with the New York State Police, Kerrie and her team did important work in the City of Troy and Rensselaer County to address illegal drugs and violent crime. Even after we both retired, we again found ourselves working together on school safety matters. As impressive as Kerrie’s law enforcement credentials are, the qualities I admire most are how kind and caring she is towards others. She knows the ‘how’ of doing the job of modern policing and, more importantly, the ‘why’ so that people can feel safe, respected, and share a sense of community. I am grateful that Kerrie has once again made a commitment to serve others and I know that Kerrie will continue her great work for the people of Rensselaer County.”

Peter-Marble recently stated in the news release, “It is an honor and a privilege to run alongside Brian Owens for Undersheriff. With over 50 years of law enforcement experience, Brian and I have the qualifications to do great things for the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department. Our mission is simple, high standards and service while keeping the residents of Rensselaer County safe.”
