-

The New York State Department of Transportation recently launched its firstever podcast, “The D.O.T. P.O.D.,” which aims to share the human story of the Department, its people, and the work that is done to help keep New Yorkers safe.

According to a press release, the podcast will tell first-hand stories of the people who help design, build and maintain New York’s transportation network. From building bridges and paving roads in the summertime to clearing snow in the winter, “The D.O.T. P.O.D.” will explore how it all gets done by the talented women and men who do the work on behalf of all New Yorkers.

Listen in or subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Amazon Music or on NYSDOT’s website.

“New York State DOT is a diverse organization and the work we do touches the lives of New Yorkers each and every day, which is why we are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to engage with people and with this podcast we hope to reach a brand new audience — providing an opportunity to learn about who we are, what we do and the stories behind the people who get it all done,” said State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez in the release. “Combined with great hosts and interesting guests, this podcast will take a deep dive into some of the issues, programs and projects across the state that are meaningful to New Yorkers.”

During each episode, listeners will hear compelling conversations with New York State Department of Transportation leaders, engineers, project, program and maintenance staff, and other proud NYSDOT employees who are the lifeblood of the Department.

There may even be the occasional guest from outside the Department. Every two weeks — occasionally more frequently — co-hosts Josh Heller and Anya Kardos will explore the inner workings of the Department, the infrastructure it oversees, as well as the people behind New York’s vast transportation networks.

Episode 1 of “The D.O.T. P.O.D.” features Harry White, a NYSDOT bridge engineer with decades of experience who combines wit and hilarious anecdotes to break down the cutting-edge concepts behind some of the Department’s bridge designs. He jokes that he’s made “tens of dollars” as a stand-up comic, but don’t let that fool you as Harry has opened for some A-List comedians.

On the show, White also explains his passion for engineering, the art of making serious ideas fun and how he is widening the door for the next generation of engineers in New York State.

Those curious about the world of transportation or who simply want to learn more about the intricate operations behind your daily commute can hear new “D.O.T. P.O.D.” episodes at least every two weeks.
