Police provide update on recent arrest in firearm and narcotics probe
TROY, N.Y. » In a press release, Assistant Chief of Police Steven Barker provided an update regarding charges with an ongoing firearm and narcotics investigation.
On March 19, Troy police detectives, along with law enforcement partners, had a police presence in the area of 8th Street & Hutton Street regarding the investigation. Detectives observed a vehicle in the area of 8th Street that was occupied by two suspects of the investigation.
Both suspects fled the vehicle on foot. On March 19, Troy police arrested a 14-year-old juvenile, Baker announced Monday, and he faces charges in connection to 8 handguns as well as several high-capacity magazines that were recovered at the scene.
The juvenile, a male from Troy, was processed by Troy PD Detectives and will appear in Family Court in connection to his arrest. The second subject fled on foot, but the department knows their identity.
Evidence was recovered at the scene that will be processed as part of the ongoing investigation, Baker said. There is no information to suggest the second suspect poses any immediate threat of danger to the community.
The collaborative investigation with the other involved agencies will continue regarding the second suspect and Baker will update as arrests are made, he said.
This multi-agency investigation includes Troy Police Detectives as well as several Federal Task Forces on which Troy Police Detectives are assigned, including the DEA & FBI. These federal task forces provide personnel, resources and experience to assist in these complex investigations.
“We also extend our gratitude to the New York State Police & the Colonie Police Department who both also provided resources and personnel to assist in today’s investigative efforts,” Baker said in the release. “I want to commend the involved personnel who successfully seized multiple firearms that were intended for our community that will no longer have the opportunity to be utilized in a criminal act.”
