PET PARADE

THOMASTON: The Thomaston Public Library will be hosting a Pet Parade on Wednesday, July 24 at 2 p.m. In the event of rain the movie Because of Winn-Dixie will be shown and the Pet Parade will be held on Wednesday July 31. All pets must be on a leash or in a cage. Registration is required. Spectators welcome. MEETING

TORRINGTON: Torrington Toastmaster meeting will be held on July 24, Aug. 14, 28, Sept. 11, 25, Oct. 9, 23, Nov. 13, Dec. 11. The meetings are from 7 to 9 p.m. and are held at the Northwest Chamber of Commerce on 333 Kennedy Drive.

60TH ANNIVERSARY

TORRINGTON: Observance of 60th Anniversary Korean War Armistice will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, rain or shine, at Torrington’s Coe Park. Join the Torrington Veterans Support Committee and its member groups in remembering, honoring, and showing our appreciation to those who served, those who were injured, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Korean War. In the case of inclement weather the ceremony will be held inside the Coe Park Civic Center. Questions or comments, contact Veteran’s Service Office at 489-2531 by Wednesday July 24.

SENIOR PICNIC

LITCHFIELD: Litchfield Parks and Recreation Department senior picnic will be held on July 25, at noon. A fun filled day of food, music and games. Entertainment by Jerry Carillo band. Desserts are welcomed. Cost is $10. Call the recreation department for tickets at 567-7569 or get your tickets at Murphy’s Pharmacy, Litchfield Community Center or town hall.

MYSTICAL EXPERIENCES

LITCHFIELD: Explore the spirituality and amazing mysticl experiences and insight of Hadewijch of Brabant, Mechthild of Madeburg and Marguerite Porete. In this offering we will now reflect on selections of their writing through a ‘close reading’ of their words. Guidelines for doing a ‘close reading’ as well as copies of the selections will be available.

COMMUNITY/OPEN HOUSE DAY

NORTHFIELD: Northfield Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting a community day and open house, on July 27, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Firehouse, 12 Knife Shop Road. There will be firehouse tours, live fire and EMS demonstrations, food, games, kids’ activities and music. There will be a free pasta dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. sponsored by the Northfield Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and live music by the band Big City Styles from 4 to 9 p.m.
