Bridgeport to pay legal fees of superintendent
BRIDGEPORT (AP) >> Bridgeport’s school board has agreed to pay the legal fees for Superintendent Paul Vallas as he fights for his job before the state Supreme Court.
Vallas, who previously led school districts in Philadelphia, Chicago and New Orleans, is not certified in Connecticut.
But a state law was passed this year that allowed him to get a certification waiver after taking a program approved by the state Board of Education.
Some residents challenged that program in court, and a Superior Court judge recently ruled Vallas is not qualified for his job and ordered him to step down.
