BARKHAMSTE­D >> Peter Ford North, 67, of Barkhamste­d, beloved husband of Karen (Woodard) North, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013. He was born Sept. 23, 1945 in Hartford, son of the late Lucian and Marjorie (Morgan) North of Simsbury.

Peter was a Vietnam War era veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. North had been employed by Shared Services after retiring from over 37 years of employment in the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0159 in Riverton.

He was a volunteer firefighte­r for over 40 years, serving as President and Commission­er of the Pleasant Valley Fire Department and a member of the CT Fire Police Associatio­n. Peter enjoyed spending time with his grandchild­ren, was a movie enthusiast and an avid reader.

Besides his loving wife of 45 years, he is survived by his three sons, Glenn North and wife Shannon, David North, Joe Woodhall and his wife Deb; two daughters, Nicole Pittsley and husband Scott, Susan Ga- linsky and husband Mark; two sisters, Mary Lou Dickenson and husband Danny and Edith Bonin and husband Greg; his grandchild­ren, Ben, Brandon and Meghan North, Samantha, Alex and Andrew Pittsley, Shawn and Kyle Woodhall and Christina and Jason Fuller; great grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Sunday, July 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service with military final honors will be Monday, July 29, 11 a.m. at the North Canton Community United Methodist Church, 3 Case Street in North Canton. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 199, Pleasant Valley, CT 06063 or to the North Canton Community United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 311, North Canton, CT 06059.
