Eagle Scout dedicates project to Judea Garden
BANTAM >> Liam Shannon, a member of Bantam Boy Scout Troop 29, recently completed his Eagle Scout project, building tables and benches for the Judea Garden at the Steep Rock Preserve in Washington. The project was conducted in early March, and the pieces were delivered on March 24.
Eagle Scout candidates complete their requirements for the Boy Scouts’ highest ranking by choosing a community service project, designing it and enlisting assistance from fellow troop members.
Troop 29’s Scoutmaster is Mark Yanaway. A sizeable group of fathers and sons joined Shannon for the work detail in March, including Jerry Frisbie
Ben Frisbie, Jared Lago, Erik Ulrichsen, Jasper Brodhead, Keith Schneider, Danny Schneider, Jonathan Roberts, David Roberts, Caleb Finn, Ethan Murphy, Paris Afiouni, Imad Afiouni, Josh Goldberg, Brenna Goldberg, Bill Shannon and Holly Shannon. Association members joined Shannon to deliver the pieces included Denise and Peter Arturi and Clark Gifford.
The custom-built tables will allow garden volunteers to clean and dry produce from the garden after it is picked.
Judea Garden was founded in 2009, with a goal to provide fresh produce for members of the Washington community with limited financial resources, and to give volunteers an opportunity to continue to help their neighbors during difficult economic times. Now in its sixth season, Judea Garden has grown, harvested and distributed 20,000 pounds of fresh produce to members of the community with limited financial resources. Members say they have seen an increase in use of 15 to 20 percent in Washington and New Milford and have extended assistance to residents in Kent, Sharon, Torrington and Waterbury.
