Registration open for summer athletic conditioning camps
TORRINGTON >> The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Rehabilitation Department’s Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Program is offering conditioning camps in Litchfield, Thomaston and two in Winsted for high school and middle school athletes.
“The key to success in athletics is participating in a broad range of activities and hard work in the off-season. Our specialized blend of exercises will improve performance and instill a solid exercise foundation in those who attend,” said CHH Athletic Program Director Amanda Hill, in a written statement.
The camps are run by nationally certified and state licensed Athletic Trainers from Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. The goal is to give athletes a chance to participate in a rigorous but affordable speed, agility, conditioning, and injury prevention camps. The camps teach the athletes proper stretching techniques and a specific breakdown of athletic movements that can be applied to their sport to help reduce the incident of injury and to improve their overall strength and conditioning. The camps also utilize various plyometric and functional exercises to enhance overall physical performance for all athletes from an incoming freshman to a high-level varsity athlete.
At Litchfield High School, 14 Plumb Hill Road in Litchfield, Certified Athletic Trainer Tim Calder will be running six summer fitness and conditioning sessions on Friday mornings twice a month starting at the end of June. The dates are June 23, June 30, July 14, July 28, Aug. 11, and Aug. 25. Workouts begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately one hour. This camp is available for Litchfield High School students.
Registration for all 6 sessions in advance is $45. Participants can also pay the day of the session for $10 but must register 48 hours ahead of the scheduled session. Contact Tim Calder at tcalder@hungerford.org for more information and registration.
At Gilbert High School, 200 Williams Avenue, Winsted, Certified Athletic Trainer Bob Snyder will be running five summer fitness and conditioning evening sessions the week of Aug. 7-11 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for the week or $10 a day. At Thomaston High School, 185 Branch Road, Thomaston, Certified Athletic Trainer Caitlyn Murphy will be running five summer fitness and conditioning evening sessions the week of Aug. 14-18 from 5:306:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for the week or $10 a day for those who can’t make it for the entire week.
