Historical society schedules summer adventures for youth
LITCHFIELD >> Children can embark on a journey back in time with the Litchfield Historical Society’s summer adventures, created for history-lovers ages 8 to 14. The week-long programs run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and cost $80 for members and $120 for non-members.
A Civil War Experience is offered July 24-28. Participants will assume the identities of soldiers who fought with the 2nd CT Heavy Artillery during the Civil War and learn about life during wartime while playing games and making crafts. Registration is required by July 1.
Miss Pierce’s Academy Experience will be held the week of July 31-Aug. 4. Girls and boys at Sarah Pierce’s Litchfield Female Academy studied both decorative arts and academic subjects. During the week-long Miss Pierce’s Academy participants will earn their diploma as they create works of art, master dancing, and play games – just like a student from the 1800s. Registration required by July 14.
Space is limited and registration is required 2 weeks prior to the program. Fee must be paid in full at time of registration. 50% refund will be provided, if notified of participant cancellation a week before program. Can’t make the whole week? Day rates are available at $18 for members and $22 for non-members.
