ROAD RACE: Friends of Brodie Park and New Hartford Recreation present the annual Race Around the Lake on Sunday, May 28. Registration begins at 8:30a.m. Race starts promptly at 10 a.m. Join your neighbors to run, walk, cheer or volunteer at this 3.5 miles fun run/walk around West Hill Lake at Brodie Park. FISHING DERBY: New Hartford Recreation Department presents the 10th Annual David Childs Memorial Fishing Derby along the Farmington River. The event begins on Saturday, May 27, at 7 am and ends on Sunday, May 28 at 3:30 p.m. There are Adult and Youth prizes with a top prize of $1,000. Cost is $10 for adults, $3 for ages 12 and under or a $15 maximum per family. LIME ROCK CAR SHOW: Lime Rock Park in Lakeville hosts The Royals’ Garage Sunday Car Show on Sunday, May 28, featuring muscle cars, import/tuners, street rods, motorcycles, classic cars, antiques, race cars, trucks, and even some homemade contraptions, on the Sam Posey Straight as the final day of the Pirelli World Challenge race weekend (those who have a weekend ticket are admitted at no additional charge into the show). TOWN PICNIC: A Memorial Day Old Fashioned Town Picnic will be held Monday, May 29, 2 p.m. at the Morris Town Beach Pavilion. Admission is free. There will be live music and activities for children. There will be a one-day delay for pick up of all municipal solid waste and recyclables collection for the remainder of the week following Memorial Day. Friday’s regularly scheduled collection will be on Saturday. The regular schedule will resume the following week. RUSSIA 2017: Hotchkiss School Russian instructor Keith Moon will lead a discussion, “Russia 2017: What’s Going On?”, May 31 at 2 p.m. Moon, who lived and studied in the former Soviet Union and travels frequently throughout Russia, holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College, a graduate degree from Harvard University, and has taught Russian at Hotchkiss for more than 25 years.
