MSNBC host to present ‘Shock Therapy: Surviving the New Normal’
WASHINGTON » In the face of ongoing confrontations in Washington, DC and around the country, JoyAnn Reid, the MSNBC host, on July 23 will discuss “brewing crisis” and answer your questions at “Shock Therapy: Surviving The New Normal,” the next program in the fiveyear-old interactive Town Hall series “Conversation On the Green.” The event will be held Sunday, July 23 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Parish Hall, Parsonage Lane in Washington.
An author and historian as well as one of the country’s premier political analysts and commentators, Reid also is a national political correspondent for the cable news network. She is the author of last year’s best-selling history “Fracture: Barack Obama, the Clintons and the Racial Divide,” an analysis of the recent history of the Democratic Party. With E.J. Dionne, she this year also published “We are the Change We Seek,” a collection of Barack Obama’s greatest addresses, beginning with his 2002 speech opposing the Iraq War and closing with his emotional farewell address in Chicago in January 2017.
Reid’s MSNBC program, “A.M. Joy”, is aired on weekends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A graduate of Harvard University, she is intimately schooled in the nuts and bolts of politics. During the 2004 presidential campaign, she was the Florida deputy communications director for the 527 “America Coming Together” initiative and was a press aide in the final stretch of President Barack Obama’s 2008 Florida campaign.
A regular contributor to “The Daily Beast,” Reid’s columns and essays have appeared in newspapers and magazines around the country.
All proceeds benefit area charities: Greenwoods Counseling Referrals, which provides affordable or free mental health services to the area’s most vulnerable, Susan B. Anthony, which provides free crisis and support services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; and New Milford Hospital, which serves thousands in the community.
Basic tickets are $45 “Angels on the Green” tickets are $250 per person and include preferred seating and the opportunity to meet Joy at a special cocktail reception at Grace Mayflower Inn & Spa following the conversation.
After the reception, there will be a dinner at Grace Mayflower Inn & Spa. Available exclusively to guests, the dinner includes a 3-course gourmet meal for $88.50 per person, including wine, gratuity and taxes.
