LITCHFIELD » A Waterbury man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Litchfield Superior Court to selling crack cocaine in Torrington.

Zarquavius R. Mullen, 38, of 326 North Main St., Waterbury pleaded guilty to sale of narcotics and failure to appear as part of a conditional agreement with prosecutors.

Under the agreement, he is set to receive a sentence of six years in prison, suspended after two, with three years probation, according to Judge John A. Danaher III.

Mullen was seen engaging in a drug transaction by Torrington police in November 2015 in the area of Migeon Avenue and Pulaski Street, State Attorney David Shepack said Tuesday. He drove to the Torrington Police Department and was likely unaware that officers were following him, according to Shepack.

A search of his vehicle turned up $212 in cash, narcotics and 12 cellphones, Shepack said.

The $212 will be forfeited under the terms of the plea agreement.

Police reported that Mullen sold 1.73 grams of crack cocaine during the transaction, Shepack said.

Mullen was originally charged with sale of illegal drugs, possession of narcotics and possession of illegal drugs within 1,500 feet of an elementary or secondary school or a licensed day care center, according to police, who said the drug transaction occurred near Forbes School.

Mullen is also facing charges in Waterbury and Bantam courts at this time, including possession with intent to sell and violation of a protective order. He is next scheduled to appear in Litchfield Superior Court on Sept. 26.
