Man found in possession of drugs, accused of stalking
TORRINGTON — A Torrington man was arrested and found to be in possession of crack cocaine, heroin and suboxone, police said.
Joseph S. Costello, 49, of Marion Avenue, was arrested Sept. 19 and charged with use of drug paraphernalia, possession of crack cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of suboxone, second-degree breach of peace and thirddegree stalking, police said.
According to a probable cause report, a city police officer responded to exit 43 on Route 8 south at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday, where Costello had already been detained by other officers as part of an investigation into a disturbance.
Costello "was displaying nervous behavior that can be consistent with crack cocaine use" and told the officer he had a crack pipe in his vehicle, according to the report.
The pipe, a bag of crack cocaine, 40 suboxone tabs and two wax paper bags containing heroin were found during a search of Costello's vehicle, police said.
“The victim in the disturbance provided a sworn written statement explaining Costello stalking her during the evening,” said the officer in the report. “When Costello was questioned he admitted to following the victim to police headquarters.”
Costello was arrested and held in lieu of $5,000 bond, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned in State Superior Court in Torrington on Wednesday.
