Awards to be presented during annual vigil
TORRINGTON — In honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Susan B. Anthony Project will be holding its 29th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Coe Memorial Park in Torrington. The vigil raises awareness of domestic violence, honors survivors and remembers those who have lost their lives. The vigil also provides an opportunity to give a voice to survivors and their families during its “Speak Out” portion.
At the vigil, Susan B. Anthony Project recognizes exceptional individuals and organizations in the community for their continuing support. This year, we recognize:
Devin Stilson, Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney, who has a victim centered approach with domestic violence cases. He has played a vital role in providing safety measures and advocating to the judge in all capacities to make sure abusers are held accountable and victims are safe.
Candice Fedorovich, Judicial Branch Clerks office, has been very helpful to the project’s Civil Family Violence Victim Advocate. “As a result of Fedorivich’s help the advocate was able to navigate the civil court process and deliver services to clients more effectively. Her kind and approachable demeanor made the advocate feel welcomed and supported,” a press release reads.
Teddi Creel is a member of the Litchfield/Waterbury Coordinated Access Network (CAN) and as a member has advocated on numerous occasions for domestic violence clients to receive housing vouchers.
Academy of Medical Training has worked collaboratively with the agency towards the best outcome for our clients. The staff has been accommodating to clients, whether it be registering for a class or making payment arrangements.
Janette Coury is an LCSW at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, who helped facilitate collaboration between behavioral health and domestic violence services on behalf of a survivor.
Officer James Foley of Torrington Police Department has gone above and beyond to make victims of domestic violence feel safe during first process.
Thomas M. Ford is an attorney for CT legal services and has been instrumental in assisting one of our clients with housing matters. “Tom is always very respectful towards clients and went above and beyond to help them find different agencies that could help this client financially,” members said in the release.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend Wednesday’s events.
