Honor society to hold event for veterans
Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s chapter of the international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, will be holding a Veteran’s Appreciation Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. in the Veteran’s Oasis (White Building), on the NCCC campus. In honor of their service to the nation, student veterans will receive service flags as a gift from the Honors Society. The flags will then be permanently displayed in the Veteran’s Oasis.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, and around the world. More than 3 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 134,000 students inducted annually.
The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. Members of Phi Theta Kappa may also apply for more than $90 million in scholarship opportunities.
