Art league plans oil painting demo
WATERTOWN — The Watertown Art League will be hosting a live oil painting demonstration by professional Artist, Jim Laurino, Monday Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church Hall, 40 DeForest St. in Watertown. The demonstration is free and open to the public.
Laurino began painting as a teenager and eventually studied design and color theory at the University of Connecticut. Over time he formed a more lasting interest in painting landscapes, and particularly enjoys working on-site, or “en plein air”. Through workshops and selfstudy, he has cultivated a unique representational painting style that balances the impressionists influence with contemporary subject matter. He constructs frames for all of his paintings. The frames, which are made out of reclaimed wood material, fashion a rustic window into each piece, subtly complimenting his work.
Laurino’s paintings are in numerous private collections. He exhibits in galleries and competitive events throughout the Northeast, most recently placing 3rd in the N.E. Landscape invitational (Lyme Art Association – Sept 2017), and receiving top prize in the October 2016 Hudson Valley Plein air competition. To learn more visit www.jimlaurino.com
The Watertown Art League meets the second Monday of the month in April, May, June, September, October, and November. For more information about the demonstration call May at 203574-2835 or visit www.walart.org/
