Litchfield announces its new ornament for the holidays

-

LITCHFIELD — Litchfield Parks and Recreation’s long tradition of creating holiday ornaments using local buildings, businesses and organizations continues with this year’s ornament honoring the Litchfield Public School system.

Each year, Litchfield Parks and Rec honors a historic business or organization with an ornament forged at the worldfamous foundry, Woodbury Pewter.

This year’s artist is Hadley Towne, a 16-year-old senior in Rebecca Melaragno’s art classes. Hadley created a “heads and tails” coin using the Litchfield mascot and other original designs for the ornament.

“My whole life I’ve grown up in this small town,” Towne said, “and I was drawn to this project because I love creating art with symbolic attributes. I’m honored to have been chosen and I am thankful my work can be shared and enjoyed by others. I’ve always loved the fine arts: sculpting, drawing, painting, etc. but I am truly passionate about Special FX Makeup, and plan to go to school for just that when I graduate.”

The ornaments, a Litchfield tradition for more than 25 years, are sold for $10 each at Litchfield Hills Nursery, Litchfield Town Hall, the Village Restaurant, Litchfield Parks and Recreation and Murphy’s Pharmacy. Proceeds from the sale of the pewter ornaments go towards Litchfield Parks and Recreation programs.
