KEEP AN EYE ON

• Oh Canada: The game will feature a reunion between Michigan State’s Shay Colley and UConn’s Kia Nurse, teammates on the Canadian team which won the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. Colley, making her senior national team debut, averaged 5.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Nurse, taking part in her sixth international tournament with the senior national squad, averaged 10.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals as Canada won the title to earn a spot in the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

• Spartans off and running: Michigan State leads all Division I teams in rebounding margin (28 per game), rebounds per game (57), is second in scoring offense (99.8) and third in scoring margin (43.8). It should be noted that the Spartans haven’t played a ranked opponent yet topping Robert Morris, Oakland, College of Charleston and Detroit Mercy.

• Not at full strength: UConn will be without its leading scorer Katie Lou Samuelson, who continues to recover from the left foot injury she suffered against California. Kentucky transfer Batouly Camara also continues to progress from the knee injury suffered during the preseason. There’s a chance that Michigan State could be without one of its top players as well. Taya Reimer, who faced UConn when she played at Notre Dame, has missed the last two games after averaging 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist and 2 blocked shots per game in the Spartans first two games of the season. Reimer played in two national championship games at Notre Dame, both against UConn as she had 12 points and 15 rebounds combined in the two games.
