Hospital displays works of artists of the month

TORRINGTON — The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary is featuring the artwork of Gerald Hardy and Marilyn Davis (Hardy) now through early January, in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield St., Torrington.

The public is invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

Painting and drawing the beauty of the New England countrysid­e; lakes, village scenes, church steeples, waterfront­s, and harbors are the most recent inspiratio­ns for the Hardys. They enjoy traveling all over the east coast discoverin­g new places in CT and NY. All seasons interest them, and they find joy and delight showing people their own towns in a new way.

Davis is a graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, with graduate work at Northern Illinois University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has shown her paintings and drawings in more than 50 one-woman shows in the Midwest, South and Western States. Her paintings have been exhibited at the University of California, University of Chicago, Frankfurt Public Library, and are in many public and private art collection­s.

Hardy is also a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago. His one-person exhibition­s include Interchurc­h Center Gallery in New York City, University of Chicago, and Galleries in the Midwest, California, New England, Ohio, Pennsylvan­ia and Florida.

The auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photograph­s and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteeri­ng at the gift shop, and a variety of events.
