Warner Stage Company: ‘The Irish ... And How They Got That Way’

TORRINGTON — The Warner Stage Company will hold Open Auditions for a Nancy Marine Studio Theatre production of “The Irish ... And How They Got That Way” on Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m., by appointment. The musical is written by Frank McCourt, author of “Angela’s Ashes.”

The production is directed and choreographed by Meredith Porri with John Dressel as music director. It will be presented at the Warner’s Nancy Marine Studio Theatre in March.

All roles are open to audition. The company seeks 2 men and 2 women for this production. Irish accents and dance experience are a plus but not required. All auditioners are asked to prepare a short folk or Irish song (one minute or less) for the audition.

Auditioners must bring sheet music with them and be prepared to sing 32 bars, but no more than one minute, of a fully memorized Folk or Irish song that showcases their vocal range and in a style that is consistent with the music of the production. This should be something that you are very comfortable with, not something you just learned the day before. It is important that you perform your song, not just stand and deliver.)

Auditioners should mark their selection with a highlighter. An accompanist will be provided. A cappella singing, instrumentals on CD, tape, iPod, MP3 player or digital recorder will not be allowed.

Auditioners may also be asked to read from the script and perform a brief dance combination that will be taught at the audition.
