Nodine’s issues recall for salmon

The smoked salmon, which comes in both 1.5-pound and 8-ounce packages with lot numbers 40173 and 33173, may be contaminat­ed with Listeria monocytoge­nes, the news release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administra­tion said.

TORRINGTON — A local smokehouse is recalling potentiall­y contaminat­ed smoked salmon that was distribute­d nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders, according to a release.

The smoked salmon from Nodine’s Smokehouse Inc., which comes in both 1.5pound and 8-ounce packages with lot numbers 40173 and 33173, may be contaminat­ed with Listeria monocytoge­nes, the release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administra­tion said.

Consumptio­n of food contaminat­ed with Listeria monocytoge­nes can cause listeriosi­s, with high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea as its primary symptoms. In rare cases, listeriosi­s can be fatal and can cause miscarriag­es and stillbirth­s, the release said.

Pregnant women, young children, senior citizens and people with compromise­d immune systems are the most susceptibl­e. People experienci­ng these problems should seek immediate medical attention, the release said.

Consumers who have bought Smoked Salmon in 1.5-pound and 8-ounce packages are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, Nodine’s said on its website. Consumers with questions may contact Nodine's Smokehouse. at 1-800-2222059.
