Nodine’s issues recall for salmon
The smoked salmon, which comes in both 1.5-pound and 8-ounce packages with lot numbers 40173 and 33173, may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the news release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
TORRINGTON — A local smokehouse is recalling potentially contaminated smoked salmon that was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders, according to a release.
The smoked salmon from Nodine’s Smokehouse Inc., which comes in both 1.5pound and 8-ounce packages with lot numbers 40173 and 33173, may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, with high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea as its primary symptoms. In rare cases, listeriosis can be fatal and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths, the release said.
Pregnant women, young children, senior citizens and people with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention, the release said.
Consumers who have bought Smoked Salmon in 1.5-pound and 8-ounce packages are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, Nodine’s said on its website. Consumers with questions may contact Nodine's Smokehouse. at 1-800-2222059.
