Learn to build a bluebird nesting box
WOODBURY — Master Naturalist Edward Boisits will discuss the history of the Eastern Bluebird and the role of the nest-box initiative in increasing its population.
Participants will build their own nest box using kits provided.
The Eastern Bluebird, the only bluebird species found in New England, has declined due in large part to the lack of suitable nesting spots.
This was a result in part from changing land use patterns and increasing urbanization. The construction of nest boxes and their establishment in appropriate habitat is helping the bluebird make a comeback.
Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust’s ongoing bluebird program has helped bring many Eastern bluebirds back to the area.
Wanting to encourage others to also provide appropriate nesting spots for the birds, this class will provide all the materials needed to build a blue bird box and participants will be creating their own nest box to take home with them.
Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust’s ongoing bluebird program has helped bring many Eastern bluebirds back to the area.
Information and tips needed for installing and maintaining a successful bluebird nest box to encourage these beautiful birds to your property will be covered.
The program is set for 2 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Flanders Studio at the corner of Flanders and Church Hill Road in Woodbury.
Cost for each bluebird nest box is $20 for each box.
