Free Narcan training scheduled
KENT — Free Narcan Training will be offered on March 23, 5-6 p.m. at Kent Town Hall, 41 Kent Green Boulevard, Kent, for those who live and work in the Region One communities.
The training will include: overdose prevention strategies, signs and symptoms of overdose, how to administer Naloxone, Good Samaritan Law and support information and resources.
Narcan (Naloxone) is an opiate antidote. Opioids include heroin and prescription pain pills such as oxycodone, codeine and morphine. Narcan is a prescription medicine that blocks the effects of opioids and reverses an overdose.
Trained individuals are allowed to possess and administer Narcan to a person having an overdose. Narcan kits are available to those who are uninsured or under-insured. A pharmacist from Kent Station will be at the training to fill prescriptions. Participants should bring their insurance card and prescription cards.

The training is sponsored by the Northwest Corner Prevention Network and the Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse. The event is funded by a grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration through the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
