TORRINGTON — A city man was recently arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting two Charlotte Hungerford Hospital employees, according to the Torrington Police Department.

Michael Bessette, 33, of 267 Litchfield St., Torrington, was arrested March 15 and charged with two counts of assault on emergency personnel and seconddegree breach of peace, police said.

According to a probable cause report, a police officer responded to the hospital March 15 at the request of CHH personnel, who reported having an “unruly patient in their care.”

Two employees in the Emergency Department told the officer Bessette had assaulted two other members of the CHH staff while being treated, according to the report.

“I made contact with victim 1 who identified (themself ) as an Emergency Department Tech. VICTIM 1 said that they were punched in the head by Bessette approximately six times, causing injury,” said the officer in the report. “I made contact with victim 2 who identified (themself) as a Security Guard of the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Victim 2 said that they sustained an injury to their hand during a struggle with Bessette.”

Bessette was arrested and held in lieu of a $5,000 surety bond, according to police.

He was scheduled to appear in court March 16.
