Jeopardy Club Challenge set for Friday at NCCC
WINSTED — The Northwestern Connecticut Community College History Association will hold its 12th Annual Jeopardy Club Challenge on Friday at 6 p.m., in Founders Hall Auditorium on the NCCC campus in Winsted.
The Club Challenge is a tournament for members of on-campus student groups who come together to compete in a “Jeopardy” style contest.
Over the years, teams of students have participated in this tournament and raised more than $17,000 for charity. This year’s charity will be the student food pantry, “Food for Thought.” This pantry was created by the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. PTK is the international honor society for two-year schools. The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students (www.ptk.org). Northwestern’s chapter is called Alpha Nu Epsilon. “Food for Thought” has been open since the fall semester and is having an immediate effect for all those students who suffer from food insecurity. According to the data, Alpha Nu Epsilon collected in its awardwinning research project, nearly 30 percent of students at NCCC have some form of food insecurity issues. Alpha Nu Epsilon and the History Association have pledged to reduce that number.
