Murphy campaign raises $12M

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy has raised $12 million for his re-election campaign, taking in $1.5 million in the last three months alone.

He is reporting $7.7 million in cash on hand, and contributions of $100 or less make up 95 percent of the 203,000 contributions he has received.

“I’m so grateful for the incredible grassroots financial support that continues to come into our campaign. People all across Connecticut are fired up and ready to make their voices heard this fall,” Murphy said. “Voters don’t like the direction that this administration and this Republican Congress are taking the country. They want accountability and compassion returned to Washington, and that’s why thousands and thousands of small donors have contributed to our campaign so early in the election cycle.”

A detailed report, to be filed with the Federal Elections Commission, will show an in-depth breakdown of Murphy’s campaign finances and who gave him contributions.

As of February, two Republicans have lined up to challenge Murphy: Dominic Rapini of Branford, a computer salesman, former football player at Trinity and youth coach in Hamden, and Matthew Corey, a Navy veteran and owner of a Hartford pub. Ann-Marie Adams, of Avon, has registered to challenge Murphy as a Democrat, though she had only raised $3,471 as of January.
