MAD RIVER LIT FEST: Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s annual Mad River Literary Festival will be held Wednesday, April 11, on its campus in Winsted in Founders Hall Auditorium, starting at 6:30 p.m. The festival also coincides with the publication of the annual Mad River Anthology, a journal of student writing in almost continual publication since the college’s founding in 1965. Poets Daniel Donaghy and Margo Schilpp will read on Wednesday, followed by a reception and book signing.

TOUR RETROSPECTIVE: Open Your Eyes Studio Tour Retrospective will be held at Noble Horizons, Salisbury, April 13, 5-7 p.m. The exhibit, organized in collaboration with the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council, showcases the diverse talents of artists in our region and highlight artists from the first eight years of the Council’s Open Your Eyes Studio Tour.
MOURNING EXHIBIT OPENING: The Litchfield Historical Society announces its new exhibit, “To Weep with Those Who Weep: Mourning Practices in Litchfield,” on view April 14-Nov. 25. The exhibit explores mourning practices of the 19th century, as they were affected by the death of George Washington in 1799. ROAST BEEF DINNER: Warren Congregational Church, corners of routes 45/341 in Warren, will hold a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, beverages and homemade desserts on April 14, 4:30-7 p.m. Cost is $15 per person, $5 12 and under.
