Youth can apply for summer jobs

TORRINGTON — The Torrington Area Youth Service Bureau and the City of Torrington runs the 2018 Summer Youth Employment program, funded through the Connecticu­t Department of Labor’s Regional Workforce Investment Board.

Summer jobs are available for youths age 14-21. Eligibilit­y is based on income requiremen­ts (free/ reduced lunch, or other documentat­ion from federal tax returns or benefits received from DSS), youth in DCF’s foster care system, or special education students. Youth who worked in the program in the past are eligible to reapply. The program runs for 6 weeks and participan­ts are paid $10.10 per hour for up to 20 hours a week. Youth will be placed in various businesses, nonprofits, and work crews around the Torrington area.
