Shares old favorites, some newer tunes

Fresh from performing in Australia and Hawaii, singer-songwriter Jackson Browne is back on the East Coast for a series of concerts, including one at Wallingford’s Toyota Oakdale Theatre on Thursday.

Born Clyde Jackson Browne, the 69-year-old singer-songwriter will be joined by his full band, along with Vonda Shepard as his guest, drawing from his deep catalog that includes “The Pretender,” “Running on Empty,” “Doctor My Eyes” and “Somebody’s Baby,” among others.

With his latest disc, the 10-song “Standing in the Breach,” Browne gets into some deeply personal and political subjects, as he explores love, hope and defiance in the face of life’s uncertainties. Beginning with his 1972 debut album, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has released 14 studio discs and four collections of live performances, and in 2015 Rolling Stone named him the 37th greatest songwriter in its top-100 list.

Besides his music accomplishments, Browne is known for his support of environmental causes and human rights, including gun control. A co-founder of Musicians United for Safe Energy and Nukefree.org, he’s also a member of Ocean Elders, which works to protect the ocean and its creatures.
