TORRINGTON — A Mother’s Day gift has been delivered for clients of the Susan B. Anthony Project.

The first annual “Mother’s Day Beauty Bag” initiative aims to recognize “the strength and beauty of the mothers who are in residence there,” wrote Joanne Borduas, the CEO of the Community Health and Wellness Center, which sponsored the giftbag donation.

Satin bags full of bath and beauty products were delivered Thursday for distribution to the project residents. It supports survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and provides free, confidential services 24 hours a day. “We want these women to know that there are others in the community who care about them and support them on their life’s journey,” Borduas wrote.

In late April, the project held its 10th annual vigil at Coe Memorial Park in recognition of Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

The Community Health and Wellness Center provides a range of health care services for the underserved throughout northwest Connecticut. It is the only federally qualified health center in the state to receive a 2017 Quality Leader Award. It has two fullservice locations in Torrington and Winsted and operates six satellite locations.
