Center School principal resigns
LITCHFIELD — Center School Principal Abe Ammary said Friday he has chosen to take another position in the education field after serving as principal for two years.
“It was something I couldn’t pass up,” he said.
While Ammary could not yet reveal the details of his new job, he said he pursued the opportunity.
Ammary’s resignation letter, which was released Wednesday, caught parents by surprise.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have made the personal decision to say goodbye to our astounding students, caring staff and supportive families,” he wrote.
He announced in his letter that his last day would be July 1.
Litchfield PTO President Caroline Wilcox has two children who attend the school. She said parents were saddened by Ammary’s decision to leave.
“Parents were shaking his hand and told him he’d be missed,” Wilcox said.
As students were being picked up after school, she said parents and other
adults “were trying to be respectful and not ask questions.”
“He knows each and every student by name. He’s a very good leader,” Wilcox said.
She said the announcement was so recent that many are still trying to process the how the resignation will affect the school and the district.
In his March and April newsletter, posted on he Principal’s Page on the
district website, Ammary wrote about exciting events and the planning process for the next school year.
“I am so fortunate to be a part of a school community that values collaboration and the bond between home and school ...” he wrote. “As we now turn and look ahead to the final stretch of the school year, our efforts begin to focus on a strong ending to the year and planning for next year.”
Superintendent of Schools Sherri Turner couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
