Art association launches show ‘95 More Years’
KENT — The year was 1923, Yankee Stadium opened and the team won its first World Series, bread cost 10 cents and you could buy a new car for $250.
The Kent Memorial Library, built as a memorial to the Kent soldiers who fought in WWI, had recently been completed, and it was the year nine artists living in or near Kent formed the Kent Art Association.
They held their first exhibition at the new library and charged a nickel to attend. Over 600 people visited the show and the proceeds were donated to the library.
The year is 2018, the Yankees have won the World Series 27 times, bread costs over $3, a small new car costs around $15,000 and the KAA is celebrating its first 95 years. And at the invitation of the Kent Memorial Library, members of the KAA are again exhibiting at the library to begin “95 More Years.”
Fifteen artists and photographers have been selected by KAA President Connie Horton to show some of their best work. Since its founding in 1923 the KAA has grown to over 300 members, and this exhibition will showcase the quality and the variety of styles and mediums that are regularly shown at the KAA Gallery on South Main Street in Kent.
