Forbes School hosts first fitness, wellness event
Local health groups urge kids to stay fit
TORRINGTON — A day of activities for children and education for parents was provided at Forbes School on Friday night in Torrinton, attracting hundreds to the auditorium and the school grounds.
Businesses and health organizations from in and around Torrington provided free information to students and parents, along with demonstrations and activites “to support healthy living” according to physical education teacher Janice Harrington. The entire school was involved by hosting booths, providing decorations and having a wellness week theme in the classroom.
The festival was hosted by the Forbes School Wellness Committee.
Principal Joanne Creedon thanked the many participating supporters for “a super turnout and a very successful event,” she said in an email. “Many thanks to grade level contributions – kindergarten safety posters, third grade healthy eating/snacks presentation, fourth grade “be kind” project, fifth grade essays and Kindness Club poster boards.”
Creedon also thanked the Forbes Flyers, led by Harrington, for their demonstration, and to all who donated items and baskets for the raffle.
“Many thanks to all of you for encouraging your students’ attendance and for your own presence,” she said, addressing the teachers
