Art show opens Memorial Day weekend
KENT — The Kent Art Association’s Elected Artist and Solo Artist Show opens on Saturday with an opening reception beginning at 2 p.m. and the Presentation of Awards at 3 p.m. said a press release from organizers
Elected Artist is the highest status of membership offered by the Kent Art Association and is given to a select group of artists whose work has been accepted in at least two juried shows in the past three years and who have submitted an application for Elected Artist status. The applicants are then required to submit three examples of their work to a panel of Elected Artists who view it and then vote on whether to accept or reject the application. Elected Artist means that the artists work consistently meets the high standard of quality set by the KAA for its members. Judges for this show are Karen Bahrenburg and Thomas Franken
A Solo Show was awarded to the winner of “Best in Show” at last years Presidents Juried Show. The winner, Linda Puiatti, will exhibit a collection of her paintings in the Aiken Room on the first floor of the Gallery. Puiatti works primarily in oil. Working with light and shadow, and eliminating non-essential information, she creates paintings that are filled with mood and atmosphere. Her paintings seek to capture a unique moment in time that draws the viewer into the painting, creating a personal connection with the subject.
The KAA’s “Gallery in Kent” is located at 21 South Main St, Kent. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. The Gallery will also be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Memorial Day, which is Monday. The Elected Artist & Solo Artist show runs from May 26 to June 17. For more information about this and all shows, examples of the judge’s work with a short biography, membership information and photos of winning artwork from previous shows go to www.kentart.org or contact us at 860-927-3989 during gallery hours or email: kent.art.assoc@snet.net
Currently on exhibit on the front lawn of the KAA Gallery is a stainless steel sculpture of a 1920s “Flapper” created by W. David Herman of W. David Herman Gallery, Kent especially for the KAA’s 95th Anniversary. Herman works primarily in stainless steel, creating one-of-a-kind sculptures in “the image of his personal passion and imagination, never to be repeated.”
