PUBLIC WORKS FOOD DRIVE: The Torrington Public Works Department joins the Fill-A-Public Works Truck Food Drive during National Public Works Week, from May 21-25, and will support the Friendly Hands Food Bank in Torrington. Nonperishable food can be dropped-off at City Hall, the Sullivan Senior Center, the Torrington Armory or the Arthur Street Public Works Garages.

CHESS CLUB: The Litchfield County Chess Club meets Thursdays at the Torrington Library, 12 Daycoeton Place, Torrington, from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursdays. The informal club has held several meetings. Membership is free — just show up and play. Adults, teens and older children with an adult are welcome. MEMORIAL DAY IN WINSTED: Following the annual Memorial Day parade in Winsted, the Soldiers’ Monument Commission will give a ceremony on Monday, May 28, in East End Park. The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. at the west end of Main Street and concludes in the East End Park.
