Fundraiser benefits The Gathering Place

TORRINGTON — “Gathering ‘Cause We Care”, a fundraiser to benefit The Gathering Place, a homeless outreach center, is scheduled for Sept. 8, from 7to 11 p.m. at the Litchfield Inn, 432 Bantam Road, Litchfield.

Sponsored by New Beginnings of Northwest Hills Litchfield County, Inc. (Continuum of Care), the event includes an evening of live music donated by Jeff Conlon, Ian Campbell, Mark James and Sidekick Band, as well as a 50/50 raffle, raffles and a cash bar.

“The Gathering Place is committed to housing the homeless by promoting hope and new beginnings. New Beginnings and Jeff Conlon, who organized the musicians, are planning an awesome evening of music and encourage our supporters to join us. It’s a wonderful way to promote our work and to assist us in accomplishing our mission,” said Nancy Cannavo, Manager of the Gathering Place and Psychiatric Nurse Clinician & Coordinator of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Mental Health Services to the Homeless Program.

New Beginnings of Northwest Hills Litchfield County (Continuum of Care) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of managing The Gathering Place – a day-time drop-in center. The Gathering Place serves as the local point of entry for all local homeless, serving all 26 towns in Litchfield County. Open every weekday, we offer basic needs and resources to homeless veterans, families, individuals and youth to live more productive and independent lives. It is a place to come to visit year round and to receive services to meet basic needs and resources such as showers, laundry service, clothing, legal services, mental health services, substance abuse services and supported employment.

The Gathering Place is located at 21 Prospect St., Suite A, Torrington. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The staff operating The Gathering Place are volunteers from other service providing agencies who assist the homeless and their needs.
