Spino earns Independent Party endorsement
TORRINGTON — The Independent Party of Connecticut has endorsed Republican Molly Spino’s candidacy for state representative in the 65th District, according to a news release.
With the endorsement during Monday’s party caucus in Danbury, Spino will appear on both the Republican and Independent ballot lines for the general election on Nov. 6.
“I’m proud to be endorsed by both the Republican and Independent parties and I look forward to serving Torrington,” said Spino in the release. “The Independent Party’s goal of non-partisan problem solving matches the approach I plan to follow when our community sends me to Hartford. Instead of doing the bidding of party bosses, I intend to fight every day to eliminate top-down mandates, return control to our cities and towns, and make the tough decisions to fix our broken economy and budget.”
The Independent Party is the third-largest political party in Connecticut and has endorsed several candidates across the state this year, according to the release.
“We believe Molly Spino will be a fresh independent-minded voice in the state legislature seeking an accessible and responsible state government that works for all residents,” said Michael Duff, State Chairman of the Connecticut Independent Party. “Spino’s views on government spending, taxes, overall budget reform and the dire need for economic growth reflect our goals. We enthusiastically endorse Spino’s candidacy, and look forward to her victory in November.”
The 65th district serves residents of Torrington. Spino is challenging incumbent Democratic Deputy Speaker of the House Michelle Cook (D-Torrington).
