Veteran of the Month to be honored
BANTAM — On Sept. 1 at 10 a.m., World War II Army Signal Corpsman Sheldon E. Miller will be honored as Post 44 American Legion's 360th Veteran of the Month. Miller was a member of the 978th Signal Service Company that accompanied General Douglas MacArthur to Tokyo. After the war Miller married and raised his family in Torrington and Harwinton.
The ceremony will be held at the All Wars Memorial (Bantam Road/ Route 202) in Bantam with the retiring of the flag of World War II ArmyAirforce Motor Sergeant Richard G. Sangster, late of Thomaston. Then Corpsman Miller’s flag will be hoisted up the flag pole and remain for the month of September.
After the ceremony Post 44 invites veterans and guests to attend a reception at the Bantam Borough Hall (890 Bantam Road/Route 202) for light refreshments with members of Post 44, the honorees’ families, veterans from other organizations and the general public.
