Gunn Museum invites residents to lend artifacts

WASHINGTON — The award-winning Gunn Historical Museum in Washington would like to borrow Washington related artifacts to display in a major upcoming permanent exhibit about the history of Washington.

The exhibit will be funded by a $100,000 grant from the State of Connecticu­t’s Department of Economic and Community Developmen­t.

The Gunn Museum is seeking artifacts that tell the story of the unique people, places, stories and events that comprise Washington’s history.

The museum is interested in items from all sections of town, including Washington Depot, Washington Green, Marbledale, New Preston, Lake Waramaug, Woodville and Romford.

Museum members say they are interested in considerin­g Washington items that fit into the following themes: Native Americans, Colonists, Religion, American Revolution, Slavery and Abolition, Farming, Industry, Civil War, Schools and Education, Railroad, Immigrants, Vacation Resort, The Arts, Environmen­talism, Military Service (WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanista­n, etc.), The Flood, 1956 through Today, Businesses, and Organizati­ons.

The museum will borrow memorabili­a, objects, photograph­s, documents, letters, diaries, film, videos, scrapbooks, albums, signs, art, samplers, uniforms and items made or used by Washington residents. Museum staff will scan photograph­s and documents and return them.
