TORRINGTON — PriceRite Marketplace and Feed the Children, together with event partner Amick Farms, will provide food and essentials to families in need in the Torrington area, according to a news release.
Each of the 800 families, pre-identified by United Way of Northwest Connecticut, will receive a 25-pound box of food; a 10-pound box of essentials including shampoo, conditioner, lotion and personal-care items; and additional food, including seasonal fresh produce available during the fall harvest season, and shelf-stable items provided by PriceRite Marketplace.
The event will be held on Tuesday with a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and the distribution from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Price Rite Marketplace of Torrington is located at 695 Main St.
Invited guests include Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone, state Rep. Jay Case, R-Winsted, Price Rite representatives, and representatives from Feed the Children.
“Fighting hunger is at the heart of PriceRite Marketplace’s charitable giving. It has paired with Feed the Children’s vision to create a world where no child goes to bed hungry. The initiative, PriceRite Marketplace: Feeding Minds & Bodies, is intended to provide some of America’s most vulnerable children with food, personal care items, books and school supplies throughout the year and help tackle the serious issue of childhood hunger. PriceRite Marketplace and Feed the Children will host eight events in 2018 to address seasonal issues such as lack of food during the summer months, back-to-school, and holiday hunger,” officials said in a statement.
