LITCHFIELD — The Oliver Wolcott Library recently announced the hiring of two new staff members. The library is located at 160 South St., Litchfield.

The library has hired Kathy Pickle as its new children’s librarian. Pickle has been working in children’s services for several years with expertise in STEM/STEAM concepts and practices, and planning and implementing programs for birth to twelve.

A lifelong resident of Connecticut, she recently worked at the Wilton and Bethel libraries.

“Kathy is passionate about providing excellence in library services to children and teens. She will be bringing her innovation, passion, commitment and deep knowledge of all aspects of children’s and teen library services to the library,” library members said in a statement.

Pickle’s new assistant is Dr. Caroline Ugurlu, a researcher and teacher. She has spent the last four years studying the neurological processes involved in reading and all aspects of reading acquisition. She has authored a book on the subject (in publication process). “Caroline is passionate about the importance of reading,” library members said.

Ugurlu will lead the library’s pre-reading programs Bouncing Babies and Letters are Characters, a program she developed herself.
