Our campaign for good business

- JOANN RYAN

Tip O’Neill’s book “All Politics Is Local” includes the rules of the game that are refreshing and pertain to this year’s campaign as well as the chamber’s campaign for good business that is ongoing and relentless.

His checklist goes something like this:

“It’s a round world — what goes around, comes around.”

“Compromise is the art of politics.”

“Take care of your own.” “Never forget whence you came.”

“Never lose your idealism.”

“Learn to say, “I don’t know but I will find out.”

“Never question the honesty or integrity of a colleague.”

Keep in mind his list and vote for the chamber as your premier business resource promoting economic growth while enhancing the quality of life in northwest Connecticut. Here are the reasons:

Cast your ballot for the Chamber’s Manufacturing

Coalition that meets at the chamber on the first Friday of each month. The manufacturing community of this region has united throughout the years to address common needs, interests and goals. Watch for the announcements on the tours of a number of companies in the region scheduled for students.

Choose to be among the winners this Saturday, Sept. 22 when you visit six of Torrington’s hidden gems for the 4th Annual House Tour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the chamber, Torrington Historical Society and online.

You can also attend the preview party on Friday, Sept. 21 at the historic Torrington Library.

Featured on the tour are homes ranging in age from the late 18th century to the early 21st century. Many of them retain their original features and display contemporary upgrades to the kitchens. Each has a uniqueness that you will find interesting and beautiful. No contest in this decision. You will love them all.

The unanimous choice for the event not to miss goes to the WOW Forum celebrating 14 years. You will be entertained, inspired and enlightened by the “Women of Strength & Courage” who represent the best of business, entrepreneurship,

culinary arts, media, education, advocacy, comedy and careers. Go to wowforum.org to register for this Oct. 5 event at The Carole & Ray Neag Performing Arts Center of The Warner Theatre.

Your vote for one of the most important committees goes to Government Relations. Dates of Candidate Forums at NCCC and Roundtable Discussions at the Chamber with candidates are listed below:

One last thing — we may not be on the ballot, but we hope we are the front-runner and eventual winner in the campaign for good business.
